Burr Oak Library warns $6,000 CKLS cut could raise local mill levy

They said the funding loss would require the library to raise its mill levy by approximately 0.5 to 0.6 mills.
The McNicholses asked the board not to reappoint Jan Carlson as Jewell County’s representative to the CKLS, saying Carlson made the motion to adopt the policy at the CKLS meeting. The commissioners did not vote on the reappointment during the June 30 meeting and took no formal action on the library’s request during the session. Commissioners asked staff to note the request for further consideration in their appointment process.
The McNichols presentation was part of public comments during the meeting. Commissioners acknowledged the budget pressure the change would create and said they would consider the request as part of upcoming appointment decisions.
