Ward County Commissioners unanimously adopted the county's 2025 budget during a regular meeting on Aug. 26, 2024, following a public hearing that drew no public comment. The action was paired with a motion to ratify the property tax increase reflected in that budget and a separate motion to set the 2024 tax rate at $0.69 per $100 valuation.
Judge Greg Holly moved to set the rate and framed the motion under Section 26.05(B) of the Texas Tax Code, stating, "I move that the property tax rate be increased by the adoption of a tax rate of $0.69 per $100 valuation, which is effectively a 9.59% increase in the tax rate." The Court voted unanimously to adopt the budget and the tax rate.
The Court held two public hearings — one on the 2025 budget and one on the proposed tax increase — and closed both with no public response recorded. Following the vote, commissioners authorized capital projects to begin in 2024 and concluded the meeting at 10:20 a.m. The adopted budget and the set tax rate take effect according to county procedures for the 2025 fiscal year.
