Fayette County approves MOU to streamline child abuse and neglect investigations

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners approved a Memorandum of Understanding on Jan. 5, 2026 to clarify roles and responsibilities among the Department of Job and Family Services/Children Services Division and community partners when referring, reporting, investigating and prosecuting child abuse and neglect cases.
Director Faye Williamson presented the MOU, whose stated goals include eliminating unnecessary duplicate interviews of children and, when feasible, conducting only a single interview of a child who is the subject of a report. The MOU delineates partner responsibilities to reduce trauma to child victims and to coordinate investigations and prosecutions. The MOU is on file with the commissioners.
