Brenden Ibarra, grounds manager for Fort Hays State University, told the Commission Jan. 13 that the university's leaf disposal is being treated as a commercial activity and requested a waiver of county landfill fees for those loads. Ibarra described the pattern as intermittent—"it may be 5-10 loads a week but followed by months of no dumping at all"—and asked the county to consider treating the university differently from commercial haulers.
Chair Berges thanked Ibarra for his comments and the Commission agreed to add the item to next week’s agenda for further consideration. No waiver or formal action was taken at this meeting.
