Ellis County adopts broader oversized-load (moving) permits, sets penalty cap at $500

Brandon McKay, Ellis County public works director, presented an update to the county’s moving-permits policy to cover all oversized-load categories — not just over-height — and explained the new resolution contains a penalty provision tied to state statute. “The penalty can be up to $500,” McKay said, referencing KSA 8-1901.
Commissioner (speaker_2) moved to adopt Resolution R-2026-02 establishing a policy for moving building structures and other oversized loads on county roads; the motion was seconded and approved unanimously (3-0). McKay said the revised permit clarifies requirements for transporters and county staff and ensures bridges and weight-limited sections are accounted for in permit reviews.
