Judge announces temporary appointment of Commissioners Court Attorney as JP for Precinct 1
Summary
After executive session on Jan. 12, County Judge J.D. Clark announced he will appoint Commissioners' Court Attorney Thomas Aaberg as temporary Justice of the Peace for Precinct No. 1 under Texas Local Government Code §27.055(b), effective immediately until a new JP-elect is appointed following the spring primary.
Following an executive session on legal and personnel matters, the Court reconvened at 11:00 a.m. and County Judge J.D. Clark announced his intention to maintain operations in Justice of the Peace Precinct No. 1 by issuing an order appointing Commissioners' Court Attorney Thomas Aaberg as temporary Justice of the Peace for Precinct No. 1. Clark cited Texas Local Government Code §27.055(b) as the statutory authority allowing a county judge to appoint a temporary justice when a precinct's JP office is vacant.
Clark described Aaberg's qualifications recorded in the minutes: service in Wise County since 2001, prior interim County Attorney duties, and current roles as Municipal Judge for Alvord and Chico. Clark told the Court that no formal action by the Commissioners' Court was required at that moment, asked the Clerk to attest the order and to enter it into the record, and said the temporary appointment will remain in effect until the new JP-elect is appointed following the spring primary.
