Wilson County commissioners approve routine agenda items; resident raises concern about Neodesha EMS staffing

The Wilson County Board of County Commissioners met Jan. 14, 2026, and approved the agenda as amended and the minutes of Jan. 7, 2026 after a motion by Commissioner Jerry Scott and a second by Commissioner Andrew Miller. The board also recorded consensus to hire Michael Staggs as an equipment operator for the Road & Bridge Department and approved an oversize/overweight permit for applicant Feyn Baker.
County Coordinator Kris Marple presented administrative items including a SecureTech quote to add seven alarm buttons to the Wave Security System for $1,057.00, a revised agreement with the Kansas Setoff Program, and the Federal Civil Rights Title VI policy and complaint form from the Kansas Department of Emergency Management. Commissioners Miller and Scott moved and seconded approvals for those items, and the motions carried. During other business, resident Shane Newton said he remained disappointed with recent Neodesha EMS decisions and questioned why only one ambulance is currently staffed; Commissioner Casey Lair said he will look into the matter. The board approved warrants totaling $272,867.35 and adjourned at 9:55 a.m.; it will reconvene Jan. 21, 2026 at 9:00 a.m.
