Coosa County commissioners sign letter supporting Kellyton opposition to proposed quarry

Commissioner John Forbus moved that the commission sign a letter supporting the town of Kellyton in opposition to a proposed rock quarry near County Road 87; Vice‑Chair Brandon Davis seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The letter was submitted to the commission and its concerns were entered into the public record on Feb. 10, 2026.

The residents’ letter, presented by Karen Keel on behalf of Kellyton citizens, listed specific concerns including an estimated 23 homes within roughly 600 yards of the proposed site, dust and air-quality impacts, increased blasting and vibration affecting structures, potential harm to the local water source, expected declines in wildlife and bird sightings, increased truck traffic damaging roads, possible rail backups affecting emergency access, and a likely decrease in property values. The minutes record these concerns as the basis for the commission’s action to sign the town’s support letter.
