Commission agrees to pay CDL training and related expenses for Road & Bridge and Solid Waste employees

Engineer Justin Barfield and County Attorney Phil Eldridge advised commissioners about covering expenses for Road & Bridge and Solid Waste employees to obtain commercial driver's licenses (CDLs). Eldridge explained legal collection issues and that law enforcement uses a different statutory authority; the Commission approved covering all expenses, including hourly pay for the 40‑hour class, permit costs and CDL physicals for qualifying employees (motion by Commissioner Bart Wilks, seconded by Commissioner Todd Brannon; vote 4‑0).
Barfield noted four employees had expressed interest and only one had received a permit; the department will proceed with training under the approved expense coverage. The minutes show hires for a parts runner and EOII and continuing recruitment for a Foreman position.
