Economic Development Director Stephanie Imthurn informed the Commission that Rural Affordable Housing Partners, Inc. was awarded $1,500,000 through FHLBank Topeka's 2025 Affordable Housing Program to support a Homeowner Rehabilitation Program aimed at weatherization and repairs (windows, HVAC, ADA bathroom work and similar projects). Imthurn said the funding is intended to assist approximately 100 homes across the county and that further application and qualification details will be released soon.
Imthurn and County Attorney Tim Liesmann reported meetings with Kansas Department of Transportation staff to discuss cleanup and trail improvements at the Paxico Rest Area. Local groups including Top City Trails, the Wabaunsee County Historical Society and volunteer Mel Stout are involved; Phase 1 would clear existing trails and clean around a monument on the 60-acre site, and Phase 2 would expand additional trails. The Commission agreed to accept a Neighborhood Revitalization Program application from River Supply Inc. for phase one enrollment with the caveat that future-phase applications would not be accepted after construction begins.
The minutes do not specify timelines for homeowner rehab application openings or detailed AHP program administration by county staff.
