Planning commission postpones Mayfield Colony rezoning amid adjacency concerns

The joint Planning Commission and County Commission held a public hearing on proposed Ordinance 01-24, which would rezone property owned by Mayfield Hutterian Brethren from Agricultural to Commercial/Industrial. Luke Muller presented the property description and ordinance context. Joe Waldner of Mayfield Colony spoke for the applicant and said the colony plans to create wood structured walls in a recently constructed building. Commissioners noted current zoning guidance recommends commercial or industrial zoning be adjacent to paved roads; the parcel before the board does not meet that recommendation. The commission moved to postpone the matter to Oct. 15, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. (motion by Gjerde, second by Knock).
The postponement was unanimous. Staff reports, findings and the property description are on file with Planning & Zoning for the continued hearing.
