Landfill director cites missed groundwater reporting; KDHE, SCS to perform confirmation sampling

Rhonda Carroll, Clay County Landfill Director, informed the board that the county received a letter citing two violations: a failure to notify and a failure to conduct confirmation groundwater sampling. Carroll stated that the contracted consultant, SCS Engineers, performed the sampling but did not report the results to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), and that SCS Engineer Megan Ostrand has been in contact with KDHE's Wally Mack to arrange on-site confirmation sampling in February for monitoring wells MW-3C and MW-5A.
The board instructed Carroll to ensure the issue is handled and to attend the on-site confirmation sampling. Carroll also requested and received approval for radiator repairs on a county pickup, authorized purchase of 10 trailer tires from Kansasland Tire and Service ($782.50) and the board decided to list the yellow recycling box truck for sale on Purplewave.
