Clay County departments report on EMS runs, training and winter response

Several Clay County department heads gave routine updates during the Jan. 26 commission meeting.
EMS Director Alec Trembath said the department is on emergency run 66 so far in 2026. He reported EMT student testing was cancelled because of the weather, that CPR classes and instructor training are being finalized, and that Cub Scouts will visit the EMS station for first-aid instruction. "Several CPR Classes are coming up for certification," Trembath said, and the department is preparing additional EMT instructors to expand local training capacity.
Emergency Manager Jim Bogart reviewed a mandatory county training for employees on Recognizing and Responding to Persons with Mental Illness and said the board signed an Event Approval for an employee to attend training in Salina, Kansas. County Health Director Dana Rickley provided a brochure for the LIFT Leadership Training Series "Developing the Leader Within You 2.0" and said she will attend a May conference in Las Vegas concerning Drug Endangered Children with Clay Counts representatives.
Sheriff Alan Benninga reported that the recent weekend snow and cold weather operations "went fairly well," but noted the department responded to a county fire that was difficult to fight because freezing conditions affected water supply and equipment.
No formal board actions resulted from these reports; the updates were recorded as informational items in the minutes.
