Ellis County commission approves consent items, notes procurement corrections and holds executive sessions

The Board of Ellis County Commissioners approved a consent agenda of routine claims and adjustments by a 3–0 voice vote. The consent agenda covered payroll, payroll deductions, tax roll adjustments and licensing items listed on the agenda, and was moved by Commissioner Nathan Leiker and seconded by Commissioner Neal Younger.
Human Resource Manager Jennifer Taylor introduced several new employees, including EMTs Brooke Wiltfong, Garrett Farney and Natasha Schumacher; detention staff Madison Schmidt and Da’Vontai Robinson; dispatchers Emileah Bunting and Isabella Bollig; Truck Driver II Becky Reed; Mechanic Jeremy Alexander; and Heavy Equipment Operator Daniel Giebler. County Clerk Bobbi L. Dreiling reported two previously approved purchase orders had correct amounts but incorrect payee names and would be corrected per auditor guidance (Carrico Implement payment to Deere and Company; KanEquip payment to Alamo Group Mowing Solutions).
The board recessed into two executive sessions for contract negotiations and non‑elected personnel matters with invited staff and county counsel; both sessions were extended and the open meeting resumed with no action taken. Chair Michael Berges adjourned the meeting at 2:14 p.m.; the next regular meeting is Jan. 13, 2026 at 8:30 a.m.
