Clay County board elects leadership, adopts salary, mileage and accounting resolutions

The Clay County Board of Commissioners reorganized for 2026 at its Jan. 12 meeting, naming Commissioner Thurlow as chairman and Commissioner Carlson as vice-chair. The motion to nominate Thurlow was made by Commissioner Jerry F. Mayo and seconded by Commissioner Carlson; it passed unanimously.
The board also adopted Resolution 2026-02 to set elected-official salaries for 2026 and Resolution 2026-03 to set the mileage reimbursement rate at $0.67 per mile effective Jan. 1, 2026. Commissioner Carlson moved both measures; each motion passed unanimously. In a separate action the board adopted Resolution 2026-04 directing county financial statements and reports be prepared on a cash-receipts-and-disbursements basis adjusted for compliance with Kansas cash and budget laws.
The reorganization included presentation of a partial business list used for annual board procedures. The meeting record shows all resolutions and reorganizational motions carried with unanimous support from Commissioners Mayo, Thurlow and Carlson. The board did not schedule further hearings on these administrative items at that meeting.
