Jackson County readies for World Cup visitors; board agrees to suspend short-term rental regulations for event window

Ashlee York, director of the local Chamber of Commerce, told the Board that Jackson County is included on the regional "heat map" for the World Cup and that the Kansas City area is expected to receive about 650,000 guests during the event window. She said the tourism council and Chamber are updating Travel Kansas listings and encouraging app downloads and local watch parties to welcome visitors.
"Jackson County is in the heat map for the event," York said, and she added that Kansas City is expected to receive around 650,000 guests in the regional area for this event. After discussion, the Board and Appraiser Kate Immenschuh reached consensus to suspend county regulations that might interfere with short-term rentals during the period noted in the meeting (June 8–July 18) so property owners could rent homes or rooms during the influx. The Board asked staff to coordinate details and compliance steps before the summer peak.
