Sheriff Daniel Cape told the board the Dodge County trial held at the Bleckley County courthouse on May 20 ran for two weeks and required additional deputies and security measures. He told commissioners that Dodge County covered the cost so Bleckley County did not incur charges for the extra staffing.
The sheriff said the case resulted in a mistrial and that the trial will be reconvened in August with a new jury, again hosted at the Bleckley County courthouse. Commissioners were not asked to take a formal vote on courthouse hosting or to authorize additional county funds at the meeting.
