Beadle County commissioners on Jan. 27 adopted a resolution authorizing an excess levy of $500,000 for calendar year 2026, with taxes payable in 2027, and extending the opt‑out for two years through taxes payable in 2028. The resolution states the board is “unable to operate under the tax limitation measure currently in statute,” and the action was approved by at least a two‑thirds vote.
The resolution includes notice language that the decision may be referred to a public vote if a petition signed by at least 5% of registered voters in the district is filed within 20 days of the first publication of the decision. The county auditor is authorized to spread the excess levy unless the action is reversed by referendum. The board adopted the notice of property tax increase and directed publication as required by statute.
