County attorney: IHS accepted Medicare-plus proposal for county ambulance rates starting July 1

The board considered an Indian Health Service rate quote agreement (IHS RQA) for the Big Horn County ambulance service. Deputy county attorney Heather Reddy told commissioners that IHS “have accepted our request, for Medicare fee scheduled plus 250%,” and that the effective date would be July 1, 2026. Reddy noted staff were also discussing retroactive payments and configuration steps needed to set the rate in county systems.
Commissioners asked about implementation timing and whether staff had coordinated with billing systems; staff said setting due processes could take a couple of months. A motion to approve the agreement was offered and seconded and the board authorized signing and implementation steps.
