Morgan County commissioners remove Dollar General sign item, table house-form standards and tree ordinance

County Attorney said the Dollar General sign appearance did not require Board action. Commissioners voted unanimously to remove the Dollar General sign item from the agenda and to table House Form Standards and a proposed tree ordinance until the Feb. 17 work session.
At the Jan. 20, 2026 meeting in Madison, County Attorney Patrick Jaugstetter told the Board that “the appearance of the Dollar General sign does not require Board action and is not a zoning condition.” Shortly afterward, Commissioner Nathan Park moved to remove the Dollar General Sign–Clarification agenda item and to table two zoning-related items until the Feb. 17 work session; Commissioner Carl Jones seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
The motion specified three procedural changes to the published agenda: remove item #4 (Dollar General Sign–Clarification) and table Item #5 (House Form Standards–Review and Feedback) and Item #6 (Proposed Tree Ordinance) until Feb. 17, 2026. The Board took no other substantive action on the House Form Standards or the tree ordinance at this meeting; those items will return for discussion at the February work session.
