Planning staff presented the first reading of a comprehensive Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) designed to consolidate zoning, subdivision and development regulations into a single, user-friendly document.
Jeanne, the planning staff presenter, said the UDO “repeals and replaces” four appendices of the Troup County code (zoning, airport zoning, subdivisions, and the quality development corridor) and described public outreach over several years. Jeanne told the board staff recommends approval with an effective date of August 1, 2025, and noted a second reading was tentatively scheduled for June 3.
Commissioners asked why the Board of Zoning Appeals had a 3–2 vote on the draft and sought clarity about the livestock and kennel provisions and the comprehensive land map timeline; staff said many concerns at the prior meeting focused on livestock sections and that DCA adoption of the comprehensive land map is due by the end of October. After discussion, a commissioner moved to continue the UDO for additional review and the motion passed, making the item returnable on June 3 or June 17.
