At a budget workshop, Prairie View staff outlined the preliminary schedule for the fiscal 2026–27 budget and distributed comparison materials of last year’s budget and the department projections, city staff said. Finance lead JJ Johnson told the council the process will center on operating departments’ requests and that the council’s role is to review and approve a final plan.
Johnson said he provided a schedule of workshops and asked the council to pick dates for a near‑term session to review departmental projections. “The week of July 29 through the 31st for the next regular budget workshop meeting,” Johnson said, and the council later agreed to schedule an August workshop on Aug. 4 at 5:00 p.m. so staff can circulate revenue and tax‑rate options in advance. Johnson said the city will hold a public hearing on Sept. 21 and aims to approve the budget and property‑tax rate at its Sept. 28 council meeting.
