The Bridgeport City Council voted to grant preliminary approval to a petition from RDR Properties LLC to abandon Eaton Court in the Charles Point area, the road being developed as part of the Bella Vista Apartments project. Planning staff explained that if the abandonment receives final approval the city would stop maintaining Eaton Court and the roadway would remain private; staff emphasized they will include easements to protect city utility lines.
"They are asking right now for a preliminary approval to abandon Eaton Court," Ms. Kerr told the council. Council members questioned why the developer preferred to hold the road as private; staff and the petitioner were reported to be working with city attorneys to prepare a final resolution. Councilmember discussion included a request that the developer provide reasoning at the final hearing and possibly appear in person. The council moved for preliminary approval and staff will prepare final documents for formal consideration at the next meeting.
