Jail Administrator Emily Scholl told the committee she does not yet have a clear picture of long-term effects from recent operational changes but noted that meal costs have decreased. Scholl said housing inmates in Trempealeau County brings extra duties, including transports and more communication, and that the jail is still "waiting on credit" for medical and mental-health arrangements.
Sheriff Mike Osmond said the office will cover additional shifts for Mondovi and that the Fountain City contract is signed for six months. Scholl said a staff member who planned to leave will remain until the end of March and a trainee will switch to nights.
