Committee approves waiver of sidewalk requirement for Crown Pointe Subdivision

A request to waive the parish sidewalks requirement for Crown Pointe Subdivision moved forward Feb. 18 after the Road/Subdivision Regulations Committee approved the variance and agreed to place the item on the March 3 police jury agenda.
Parish Engineer Eric Hudson told the committee the 2022-approved, 15-lot subdivision was originally required to provide sidewalks, but site slopes and lot configurations make compliance difficult. Hudson said he instructed that building permits be held until the issue was resolved and that he reviewed the public hearing minutes showing the subdivision was approved with sidewalks. John Ed Jorden moved to approve the variance and Lynn Beaty seconded the motion; the chairman called for a vote and the motion carried unanimously.
Committee members noted the parish’s long-standing rationale for sidewalks — child safety and pedestrian access — and that a waiver process exists when 100% of current owners agree and site conditions warrant it. Dr. Ken Ward said the committee’s approval will be forwarded for police jury consideration at the March 3 regular meeting.
