Michael Bomberger, Community Health Care System Director of Business Development and Special Projects, told the committee the regional health‑care coalition will hold a tabletop exercise at Community HealthCare System—Onaga on Feb. 24, building toward a full‑scale exercise in April. Bomberger presented the exercise as part of regional preparedness to test coordination among hospitals and public‑health partners.
Leslie Campbell, Pottawatomie County Health Department Director, said state agencies are gearing up for disease investigations because World Cup events will bring many foreign visitors to the Kansas City area; she added the county health department will run a regional exercise on March 24 and has purchased HIPAA‑compliant Pocketalk devices for language interpretation. Campbell also reported an avian influenza outbreak in the county and outlined the local response.
