Land Bank reports progress on multiple blight-elimination rehab projects and recent reimbursement

At the Jan. 20 meeting, staff updated the board on progress through the authority’s Blight Elimination program. Round 3: a first batch of six properties (2209 Leahy; 3213 Mona; 3314 Eighth; 3025, 3029 and 3304 Waalkes) is progressing with three Waalkes houses expected to be finished by the end of the month and the other three by the end of February. A second batch of four properties (234 Harrison; 2100 & 3016 Fifth; 3328 Jefferson) have siding, windows and exterior doors in progress. A third batch of six (1152 Kampenga; 462 Catawba; 510 & 612 Ada; 979 Scott; 1088 Kenneth) have exteriors completed and drywall scheduled to be finished by month end.
Round 4 updates included confirmation that the 1367 W Sherman project was completed and the Land Bank received reimbursement in Jan. 2026. The board heard that 417 Jackson Ave (Froebel) is awaiting transfer from the City of Muskegon to Samaritas pending a lot split, and that contracts for 920 Washington Ave (Shaw Walker) were signed with J Stevens for roof systems and with RAM Concrete for concrete repair and restoration.
Board Member Kitchen will follow up on a separate development matter in Glendale where the developer is having difficulty obtaining water and sewer pricing from the City of Muskegon Heights. The minutes do not record dollar amounts for most rehab contracts in Round 3; specific contractor names are recorded for the 920 Washington Ave contracts.
