Commission authorizes notice to proceed for 287th Street/Osawatomie intersection and 2026 asphalt program

Project Manager Matt Alert presented two transportation projects and asked the commission to authorize the chair to execute notices to proceed for both.
Alert said project 2108 ST 683 (287th Street and Osawatomie intersection reconstruction) will begin July 9 with traffic-control setup on July 9–10 and a hard closure scheduled for July 13; he said the intersection project carries a 90‑calendar‑day schedule. He listed Superior Boeing as the contractor and Baldwin Engineering as the construction engineering inspector. Alert said the intersection contract amount is $766,590 and that the corrective maintenance program (project 2601 Co 670, mill and overlay) will begin Aug. 21, has 120 working days, and the contract amount is $4,156,403.69; staff estimated about $80,000 for CE services. Alert also said the corrective maintenance covers almost 18 miles and about 26,000 tons of asphalt.
A motion to authorize the chair to execute the notice to proceed for both projects was moved and seconded; the commission approved the authorization unanimously (4–0). Alert noted the contractor submitted a working schedule and expected to finish ahead of the anticipated working days.
