Parish President Peter Dufresne told the council the Bond Commission in Baton Rouge approved revenue bonds to fund the planned multipurpose building, clearing a key financing hurdle.
"With this approval, the council will need to adopt an ordinance authorizing the issuing of the debt," Dufresne said, and he said final design plans are expected next month. The parish will return to the council to adopt the ordinance authorizing issuance of the bonds and to finalize the building name.
Council members did not debate the financing during the meeting; staff said the project remains on track for bid and construction schedules discussed in subsequent agenda items. The multipurpose building was discussed in context with other capital projects and a push to finalize designs so the project can proceed to bidding and construction.
