The Troup County Board of Commissioners authorized participation in the ACCG IRMA risk pool effective July 1, 2025, and approved a multi-part motion enabling the county manager to negotiate final terms and to secure additional or tail coverage as needed.
Dexter, representing the County Insurance Review Committee, told the board: “The committee that met on this has chosen the ACCG IRMA risk pool as the best option for the county.” The recorded motion included five elements: approve participation, authorize the county manager to finalize specific coverage terms (deductibles, limits, endorsements), approve the intergovernmental contract and resolution subject to final legal review, authorize staff to obtain tail coverage for prior claims-made policies, and allow supplemental specialty insurance for risks not covered by ACCG IRMA (for example, the airport).
The county attorney reviewed the motion language and staff asked that outside legal counsel do a final review of the contract before execution. The chair called for a motion and the board carried the comprehensive authorization. Staff will return final documents to the chair for signature after legal review.
