Planning staff presented the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) second reading on June 3 and recommended approval with an effective date of Aug. 1, 2025. Staff said the UDO consolidates and replaces four appendices of the Troup County code of ordinances — covering zoning, airport zoning, subdivisions and the quality development corridor — and reflects multiple public hearings and stakeholder input over several years.
Staff noted the final draft posted for public comment contains roughly 490 pages and will be formatted and codified by Municode after adoption. "Staff is recommending approval of the UDO with an effective date of 08/01/2025," planning staff (speaker 7) said. The board treated the second reading as vote‑eligible, moved to adopt the UDO, and the motion carried.
Post‑adoption steps highlighted by staff include scrivener‑error cleanup, final formatting and public education. The UDO adoption replaces the referenced appendices in the county code and establishes the county’s consolidated land‑use regulatory framework; implementation will require staff training and updated application workflows.
