MARC highlights Operation Green Light, Way To Go and SkyCast ozone alerts; urges local action on air quality and stormwater standards

Karen Clawson, representing MARC’s transportation and environment department, told commissioners the region is paying more attention to ozone and particulate pollution and highlighted three programs to reduce emissions: Operation Green Light (regional signal coordination), Way To Go (trip planning and ride matching), and a Guaranteed Ride Home that reimburses employees for emergency rides twice a year. Clawson said SkyCast provides ozone forecasts for the ozone season (March 1 through October 31) and that MARC had not issued any ozone alerts so far this season.
Clawson also described MARC’s stormwater work, including efforts to update stormwater standards (APWA 5600) that incorporate NOAA Atlas 14 rainfall data and related training and certifications for local engineers and contractors. She encouraged local governments to engage with MARC for technical assistance and training on stormwater and air‑quality matters.
