Thomas Toler, Miami County systems administrator for information systems, told commissioners at the July 8 study session that the county should lock in Cisco licensing now rather than wait for the October renewal. He said the primary renewal “will be due in October for $13,331.30” and that the county also needs to bring its AnyConnect remote‑access software up to a supported version. Toler said the AnyConnect add‑on was not paid annually before and described that add‑on as an additional “$8.18.”
Toler described the contracts as one‑year renewals and said the county is effectively locked into existing Cisco hardware until it reaches end of life, which he said would occur at the end of this year (2026). “These come up in October,” he said, and he recommended paying now to secure current pricing and to improve security for remote work — including connections used by the sheriff’s office. Commissioners asked whether the contract could be multi‑year; Toler said he requested three years but currently had a one‑year option. The item was presented for the Board’s afternoon action agenda.
