Miami County staff outline 2%, 3%, 4% pay scenarios; 4% would cost roughly $700,000
Summary
Director of Finance presented compensation scenarios and mill-dollar equivalences: each percentage point corresponds roughly to $175,000–$200,000 in payroll-related costs; a 4% increase would be about $700,000 and equal roughly one mill on the levy.

Sydney Ming, Miami County's Director of Finance, presented three compensation scenarios for fiscal 2027 and walked the commissioners through how each affects the mill levy. "Just for round math in your head, assume 175 to 200 per percentage, is where we're at for compensation," Ming said, adding that a 4% raise would be substantial and would equate to roughly one mill.
Ming provided dollar estimates: a 2% raise is roughly $298,000, 3% about $497,000, and 4% approximately $700,000. She and commissioners discussed funding options, noting that some proposed personnel requests have already been included in departmental requests and that changes to compensation will affect the county's approach to the revenue-neutral mill calculation and the projected $1,000,000 cash drawdown into 2027. No final decision on percentage increases was taken; staff will include compensation scenarios in next week's ad-cut lists for commissioner direction.
