Grant Helley told the advisory board the Office of Sustainability will be restructured in the 2027 operating budget to become the Office of Sustainability and Facility Planning. The change is intended to integrate long-term facility planning, capital-prioritization and facility-condition assessments into sustainability decision-making so decarbonization and equitable design are considered from project inception.
Helley cited the Investing in Justice courthouse-complex project as an example of where integrating facility planning and sustainability helps align fiscal and climate objectives: "This is exactly what our Investing in Justice courthouse complex project is already doing." He said the restructuring formalizes work already underway and will allow sustainability to influence capital requests earlier in the planning process.
