Wellness committee considers age-friendly event designation for Milwaukee County festivals

"I would like to suggest that we consider this concept of an age friendly designation...that would be offered to anyone in Milwaukee County that has activities that are designed for older adults," the committee member said. Members discussed practical implementation options, including multilevel recognition (bronze/silver/gold), representation from AARP or a county Age‑Friendly Task Force on festival planning committees, and coordination with festival organizers.
Chair Denise Calloway urged aligning the idea with the county’s ongoing Age Friendly Communities Task Force and recommended sharing the proposal with Commissioners involved in that task force so it could be considered as part of a broader initiative. Several members supported the concept and suggested the committee formally forward the document to task-force contacts for consideration; the item had been posted as discussion only and not as an action item.
The committee did not adopt formal policy at the meeting but agreed to continue the discussion and to share the proposal with the appropriate task-force representatives.
