Fire coordinator Mark Whalen said the county owns 30,515 feet of hose and requested a three-year agreement pricing testing at $0.44 per foot in 2026 (total $13,426.60), rising to $0.46 per foot in 2027 and $0.48 per foot in 2028. Whalen said some stations lack reliable testers and testing during training nights is time-consuming, taking away from other essential training.
Commissioners approved the agreement unanimously, with Mark Whalen saying staff will try to cover the cost from existing equipment and capital funds. "We'll try to squeeze it out of the existing equipment funds," Whalen said. The three-year commitment was approved to ensure consistent testing and reduce in-house labor and potential equipment damage from improper testing procedures.
