Commission approves $33.6 million guaranteed maximum price for new Clay County jail and law enforcement center

After presentations by TEGRA Group and Beckenhauer Construction, the Clay County Commission approved a $33,595,400 guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for the new jail and law enforcement center and authorized signatures on the GMP amendment.
Contractors and county construction advisors told the Commission they had opened sealed bids and were able to deliver a GMP within the project budget. TEGRA Group’s Dick Strassburg presented the number: "The GMP is $33,595,400," and asked the Commission for approval of the Final Guaranteed Maximum Price Amendment.
The board voted, by roll call and motion, to approve the GMP amendment and authorize signatures on the document. County and project leaders said the market and competitive bidding produced favorable pricing; county staff cautioned that the GMP excludes land, architecture fees and some soft costs that will remain part of the overall project accounting.
Why this matters: The GMP sets the contractor’s guaranteed cap on construction costs for the jail and law enforcement center. Approving it allowed the county to lock a major construction contract and move forward with construction milestones that followed later in the year.
