Houston County approves landfill hires and raises tied to certification

The Board approved a step increase for Heavy Equipment Operator Michael Ray after he obtained Landfill Operator Certification and voted to hire DeAndrae Blassingame as a Heavy Equipment Operator effective Aug. 21, 2024.
On Aug. 20 the Houston County Board of Commissioners approved two personnel actions affecting the county landfill. The board approved increasing Heavy Equipment Operator Michael Ray one step within his current pay grade to Grade 13 Step G effective Sept. 2, 2024, after Mr. Ray obtained a Landfill Operator Certification. Commissioner Byrd thanked Ray for taking the initiative to earn the certification.
The board also approved hiring DeAndrae Blassingame as a Heavy Equipment Operator at Grade 13 Step C effective Aug. 21, 2024; personnel had reviewed Blassingame’s qualifications and found them to meet the requirements for that step. Accounting was directed to make any necessary budget adjustments for both actions.
