Jason Barry, who worked alongside Simonton, praised his stewardship: "The Commission on Aging's mission is simple. It's to prudently spend public dollars to promote the health, dignity, and independence of Monroe County residents 60 and over," and said Simonton "met every proposal and budget request with forensic scrutiny and not cynicism." Former commissioner Marty Kaufman recalled serving with Simonton and credited him with enforcing accountability that saved "tens of thousands of dollars of senior millage funds." The board offered its appreciation and asked staff to deliver the plaque to Simonton and his family.
