Chris Brown, Mapping and Zoning Director, updated the Russell County Commission on a Flood Risk Project meeting and reported a significant increase in the county’s floodplain area. He said there is a 30-day opportunity to review the floodplain map and make comments or proposed changes.
Brown said he will perform a review of county areas and asked that other community members participate; Commissioner Dean Haselhorst suggested that each Russell County city also be allowed to review and comment. The commission did not take formal regulatory action but directed Brown to reach out to city officials on how to review the map and submit comments during the public review window.
