County approves pickup and tanker purchases for local fire districts

Russell County Commission members approved multiple vehicle purchases for local fire districts during the March 2 meeting. Tracey Kuntzsch, Chief of Russell County Fire District #5, asked to buy a used ¾-ton pickup from the county highway department for $14,000 and requested authority to purchase a tanker truck with a maximum cost of $50,000 when one is found. Duke Strobel moved to approve both requests and Dean Haselhorst seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Lucas Fire District #2 Chief Kenny Cain requested to purchase two used pickup trucks from the county highway department at $14,000 each. Duke Strobel moved to approve the purchase of two pickups at $14,000 apiece; Dean Haselhorst seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Commissioners also noted the Luray Fire Department’s interest in a county pickup but said that Luray will need Osborne County Commissioners’ approval for such a transaction.
