Russell County declares local disaster after Dec. 18 grass fires

Emergency Manager David Elliott presented a written declaration and the board approved the resolution unanimously.
Resolution 2026-2 cites K.S.A. 1976 Supp. 48-932 and states the disaster proclamation covers the entire area of Russell County. The resolution notes the declaration will remain in effect for seven days unless the governing body terminates or renews it. The board approved the measure by motion of Duke Strobel and second by Dean Haselhorst.
