Board okays use of regional animal shelter reserves for technology upgrades

The Board approved a request to use a portion of the Regional Animal Shelter's reserve to purchase technology and automation intended to improve volunteer management, foster coordination and reduce staff workload. Miss McBride summarized the request and noted the shelter's reserve balance was described in the meeting as about $105,000. "This automation is gonna I think it's gonna help them tremendously," a staff member said during the discussion.
Supervisors asked whether the reserve was held by the county and if there would be ongoing costs; staff confirmed the reserve is within county cash funds, that some recurring costs would be budgeted going forward, and that the one‑time use would become part of the FY2027 operating budget. A motion to appropriate the reserve funds for the technology enhancements was made, seconded and approved on roll call.
