After reconvening the FY27 budget hearing, County Administrator Staney summarized the recommended budget, noting a 5% across-the-board employee increase, health-insurance absorption, capital plan funding, and approximately $648,540 in identified savings.
Supervisor Fogg moved an amendment to add eight new employees (three social services workers, one building inspector, two firefighters/paramedics at Station 1, and two sheriff deputies) and to add $200,000 for West Point Fire Department plus a partial amount for Manohick Volunteer Fire Department. The amendment would use about $26,007 of fund balance and increase recurring personnel costs; the board debated long-term sustainability and voted 3-2 to adopt the budget as amended.
