Parks director warns Stewart Doctor Park pool may be unsafe without breezeway repairs

Luke Williams, Patrick County director of parks and recreation, told the board the breezeway at Stewart Doctor Park pool has suffered years of water damage and that the condition could make the pool unsafe to open this summer.
"If it does not get fixed, I believe that it is unsafe, to open the pool this summer," Williams said, asking the board to authorize work to get the project moving. Williams reported two contractor proposals (one around $25,000 plus a 15% demolition fee) and said two contractors declined to bid because the extent of hidden damage was unclear. Board members recommended doing initial demolition to expose the extent of rot before soliciting final bids.
Williams also requested quotes to replace a deteriorated garage door and entrance doors at the parks storage building to better secure equipment; the board instructed staff to gather quotes and return with more detailed costs.
