Hanover Fire & EMS graduates first Citizens Academy; chiefs emphasize community partnerships

Chief Anderson and Hanover Fire & EMS recognized the first graduating class of the Citizens Fire & EMS Academy during the April 22 board meeting, describing the program as a mechanism to improve public understanding of emergency operations. Chief Anderson outlined academy training modules — fire prevention, inspections, CPR, hazardous‑materials awareness, EMS operations, personal protective equipment, rope rescue and vehicle extrication — and invited the board to participate in certificate presentations and a group photograph.
"One of the things that I value most about this academy is it does help us bridge the gap between public service and public understanding," Chief Anderson said, thanking instructors and graduates and describing plans to make the academy an annual event. Lead instructor Battalion Chief John Cundiff presented certificates as the board joined graduates for photos.
