The Hanover County Board of Supervisors voted April 22 to authorize advertisement of a public hearing on June 24 to consider a proposed 2026 tax rate of $3.00 per $100 of assessed value for data‑center equipment. Vice Chair Stoneman moved the action and the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Deputy County Administrator Jay Brown briefed the board on regional comparisons, noting that rates vary widely across the Commonwealth and that the advertised rate operates as the maximum the board may adopt. "You should have received the information, a brief analysis of regional comparisons on data center tax rates," Brown said. The board's advertisement obliges a public hearing but does not finalize a rate; members may vote to set a lower rate at adoption.
