Board hears plan for Hanover Center for Trades and Technology expansion to add labs, capacity

Facilities staff and the project architect presented a multi‑phase expansion plan for the Hanover Center for Trades and Technology designed to add lab capacity and new programs aimed at industry need.
"Our main goals are to... expand the Hanover Center for trades and technology in order to offer more programs," said Mr. Rollrank, introducing the project and the architect from RMM. The base bid calls for roughly 12,100 square feet (up to ~17,700 sq ft with alternates), new double cosmetology lab and classrooms, welding and diesel‑equipment technology labs, additional student and staff toilets and material storage, and a security vestibule. Alternatives include dedicated culinary classrooms, a flex classroom and enclosing an exterior corridor.
Project schedule information presented: construction documents through the summer, site‑plan review this spring/fall with an anticipated site-plan approval by mid‑September, bidding in September, and potential construction start in October or November. If schedule and approvals hold, the district hopes the expanded facility could accept students for the 2027–28 school year. The base expansion includes additional parking to meet county requirements.
Board members asked about current oversubscription in programs and expected capacity gains. Staff said cosmetology capacity would increase from about 40 to up to 80 students and the expansion could add capacity for roughly 160 more student seats overall while adding about four staff positions (with more possible depending on program decisions). No formal vote was taken; staff requested board feedback and will proceed with site-plan submissions.
