Cass County commissioners approved Resolution 26-06 to authorize purchase of a Ram 3500 crew cab 4x4 for the maintenance department. Maintenance staff explained that the current 3/4-ton vehicle cannot safely carry a plow and spreader without exceeding weight limits and that upgrading to a 1-ton would allow a better plow and spreader and improved hauling ability. The motion passed on a three-to-zero voice vote.
A maintenance staff speaker described repairs and modifications to the existing fleet and the operational constraints: "If we put a plow and a spreader on that truck, we're overweight," the staff member said, adding that a 1-ton vehicle would permit a heavier spreader and plow and better hauling. Commissioners recorded their approval and the county will proceed with procurement through the maintenance department.
